yea garam, tell us what you knowDecember 25, 2019 at 11:21 am #323SUSUGuest
Local practitioners are definitely not his priorities, and he only uses them to cover his main intention on bringing in international artists (so he can say that he support local as well). Look at the container art festival happening now. Where are the local penang artists? We have a handful on the island. Even the local Malaysian artists participating gets the “backside” of the containers..not nice of him.
We can just assume the rate he pays the international vs local.. . Business man for sure. 🙂December 25, 2019 at 7:41 pm #324AlvinGuest
He is the only one hosting this scale of event, what are you going to do about it SUSU?December 25, 2019 at 10:14 pm #325SUSUGuest
@alvin, true he is the only one for now maybe. To be honest, I don’t know what one or anyone can do bout it. but I am curious what the local artists think bout it.December 25, 2019 at 10:32 pm #326GarampadahGuest
I think SUSU said it all. The local practitioners are just his “in”. And yes, if your argument angle is “he’s the only one doing something of this scale”, and he is friends with the state government, isn’t that just like cronyism? I’ve also heard of news regarding him holding exclusive rights to the container festival. That’s just holding the state government for ransom.
Doesn’t help that the arts, culture and tourism portfolio is handled by a bunch of clowns. Is it that hard to have someone with principles doing this?December 25, 2019 at 10:47 pm #327GarampadahGuest
And also, from my observation, he has only one preference when it comes art style/execution. It’s always the realistic painting.December 26, 2019 at 12:03 pm #328JeckshenGuest
They will be hosting a sharing session this coming Saturday at The One Academy. Let’s see what does he really have to say.
There is Bibichun (Penang) and Caryn Koh (KL) who will be involve in the sharing.
Since the “sharing session” will be a out urban art-making, it will be interesting to see what exactly is his angle.
