Art work: You’ll Never Get a Fish

I was supposed to finish my 3 month artist residency programme at Rimbun Dahan on the 2nd April 2020. However, due to Covid-19 and the Movement Control Order (MCO), I was encouraged by authorities to continue staying on at Rimbun Dahan and only return home post-MCO.

During this whole MCO, I have been alone at Rimbun Dahan. (♪All By Myself♬). The 3 other artists previously here with me left towards end-March.

I guess artists are well equipped to build playgrounds for ourselves. I have not been terribly bored as most of the time I still do have the urge to create, although there are times I go through ‘meh’ moments of non-motivation.

My thoughts have varied, initially thinking ‘What if the world ends like this?’, and now dwelling on more practical questions like ‘How do I find alternative ways to sustain myself as an artist?’. Perhaps I could get a job at a bakery? Or maybe I could start selling my own food; imagine the tag-line ‘CC Menu: founded in 2020 during the MCO.

I am waiting for the world to return to ‘normal’ again, where I will  finally get a fish in the swimming pool!
